If you have film negatives and silver gelatin paper - bring it! If not, we have cyanotype coated paper.

Welcome the season with a beautiful holiday portrait taken at Glen Echo Photoworks! Capture the festive spirit and create lasting memories with your loved ones. We are offering two different types of portraits: Digital in Color by Donnamaria Jones and Large Format Vintage Black and White by Scott Davis.

This private gallery event will show the processes behind the prints in the Timeless 2023 Exhibit. You will see cyanotypes, gum bichromates, and platinum paladium prints develop right before your eyes. After the demonstrations there will be an Artist Talk to get an insight into the minds and methods of the photographers and print makers whose works are on display.

Building a Mixed Race Community

Join Marvin Tupper Jones as he speaks about the new exhibit at the Chowan Discovery Group. The history covered in this exhibit spans from 1851 to 1973 and takes the viewer from the antebellum time through the Civil War, Reconstruction, Jim Crow and the modern Civil Rights eras.

Photoworks Slam returns June 26, 2022, in person at MetroBar DC!  Hosted by national poetry slam winner Regie Cabico and presented in cooperation with Focus on the Story, the Slam offers photographers the opportunity to vie for an exhibition in the Photoworks 2023 Gallery.  Submit your work today at SmarterEntry.com  Deadline for submissions is midnight June 20th. Join us on Friday, September 10, 2021 from 6-8 p.m. at the Photoworks Gallery for the opening of  “Under the Influence,” an exhibition which celebrates the influence and work of Frank P. “Tico” Herrera. Tico, a founding member of Photoworks, who taught advanced photography and printing at Glen Echo for more than 45 years, exerted a profound influence on the many photography students and practitioners who studied with him over the course of his tenure. His mastery of portrait and landscape genres and his unflagging humor will be featured along with the work of his former students.
