Photo Slam 2021
Live-streamed from the Lost Origins Gallery in Mount Pleasant, the Photoworks Slam returns June 6, 2021!
Hosted by national poetry slam winner Regie Cabico and presented in cooperation with Focus on the Story, the Slam offers photographers the opportunity to vie for an exhibition in the Photoworks 2022 Gallery.
On the night of June 6th our judges will be broadcasting live from Lost Origins Gallery in Mount Pleasant.

Meet Our Judges
JOE NEWMAN is a writer, editor, photographer and media strategist who has spent the past 14 years working in non-profit advocacy in Washington, D.C. In 2018, he founded Focus on the Story, a non-profit organization that supports impactful visual storytelling and each year hosts the Focus on the Story International Photo Festival, a month-long celebration of photography in the nation's capital.
SHEDRICK PELT is a DC creative originally from Huntsville Alabama by way of Harlem. A passionate live music photographer, Shedrick has worked on the official SXSW photo crew since 2015, collaborating with artists across the U.S. as a portrait photographer, designer, and creative director. Committed to culture and community, Shedrick has worked with many community art groups in the DC area. He recently curated the “riseup” exhibit at Dupont Underground, where he serves as Ambassador to the Arts. Shedrick has been featured in exhibitions at ICP (NYC), Center for Photography at Woodstock, Dupont Underground, ExposedDC, and in Washingtonian Magazine.
SOFIA SEBASTIAN was born in Madrid and currently lives in Washington DC. Sofia was introduced to photography while watching classic movies as a teenager. Sofia’s street and documentary photography has been exhibited internationally in both solo and group shows, including a personal show at BASE Milan. Sofia received the first Female in Focus Award from 1854 Media in 2019.
