About:

Award-winning photographer Frank “Tico” Herrera, accomplished in both commercial and fine art photography, was a founding member of Photoworks and an integral part of the community from the early 1970s until his death in 2021.

In his capacity at Photoworks as an artist instructor, he developed and implemented a creative photography program and was instrumental in establishing the darkroom and instructing students on its use. Known for both his mastery of portrait and landscape genres and his unflagging humor, he was a profound influence on the many photographers who studied with him over the course of his tenure.

During his long and successful freelance career as a photographer known for his photo documentary work, Tico specialized in large format black and white photographs from locations around the world, but his passion was the landscapes and people of his native West Virginia.

The work in this exhibit highlights this passion and his discerning eye for creating images globally and in his home state, West Virginia.
