About the Course
For students who have been learning to use their cameras and/or Photoshop and would like to practice a skill and/or develop an idea. Students will share work online in a private group, and meet for feedback and encouragement in group critiques. Minimum age 18. More info: pagecarr@gmail.com.
This class is an opportunity to practice your technical and decision-making skills and develop an idea of your choosing. Feedback from the instructor and classmates will be constructive and encouraging.
What you will learn:
You will learn to make decisions in your photography, and to think about your approach. You will need some knowledge of basic camera controls. If you are less than confident about any of those, this class will give you a chance to work on them.
To get started, you will also need one or two ideas about what you want your photos to look like or convey, based on your interests. If you have a project underway, you can develop it further.
This could be anything from practical photos of objects, to conceptual and experimental art. All genres will be welcome (for example wildlife, portrait, still life, sports, documentary, family activities, and so on) If you do not know quite where to begin, a wide range of work by others to look at will be available.
You will have time between classes to make photos and make progress. In zoom class, we can discuss what’s working and what needs work, based on your goals.
Your instructor will be happy to view some basics and help you identify technical problems, but not much class time will not be used for such instruction. Please note that your instructor has more experience teaching available light photography than flash or studio lighting.
Comprehensive notes and readings will be provided. These will include links to work by artists and other substantive sources online.
