About the Course

A class for photographers in the middle of projects needing support in getting them completed. The class will be part seminar, part support group. Participants will bring in works in progress, and trade advice and guidance. Topics will include sequencing, captions and text, retouching, framing, book design, and overall critique.

---------

There comes a time in the development of any serious photographer when s/he realizes that it’s not about the one great shot, but rather creating a collection, a grouping, of mutually supporting images that establish the artist’s vision: the project. But projects can be scary to bring to completion.

This is a class for photographers who are in the middle of projects that are not quite finished, and who need some support in getting them done. The format of the class will be part seminar, part support group. Each week, participants will bring in their work in progress, and trade advice and guidance in how to get over the rough spots on the way to completion. Topics covered will include, but will not be limited to, sequencing, captions and text, retouching, frames and matting, book design, and overall critique. Each class will have one of these aspects as a central theme, but half of each session will always be devoted to looking at and discussing student work

The course is open to both digital and darkroom photographers, and those who are in any phase of their project. The focus of the course will be getting a BODY of work completed, as a book, a zine, a gallery exhibit, a digital display, etc. ANY photographic format may be used: digital cameras, film, even cell phones are good. Students may be at any stage in their projects, but will be expected to bring work to every session.
