About the Course
Already comfortable using Lightroom Classic (LRC) but would like to take your evaluation and advanced editing skills to a higher level, then this workshop is for you! We will go beyond LRC classes you have taken. We will use a unique case study approach to learn advanced critiquing principles and LRC’s advanced editing tools.
What Will You Learn?
If you’re already comfortable using Lightroom Classic (LRC), this masterclass will take your practical knowledge and LRC skills to the next level. Using a case method approach, as a group, we will evaluate images and determine what changes we can make to improve the image. We will not start with LRC tools. We will start with the photographer’s vision and what they are trying to convey to the viewer and only then will we attempt using a variety of LRC tools to accomplish that goal. This class will be different from any LRC classes you have taken! This workshop assumes that you are already generally comfortable using LRC (if you are not, see my workshop “Lightroom Classic Setup, Importing and Editing”). We will evaluate images (yours and mine) and determine how to use LRC to best convey to the viewer our vision of the image. We will use a unique case study method to explore editing possibilities and then use LRC to achieve optimal results. Rarely is there just one answer, so we will explore and learn together.
We will evaluate, critique and process both color and black and white images. With LRC’s many enhancements and improvements over the last 3+ years (i.e. think, complex masking, generative remove, adaptive profiles, lens blur panel and b&w profiles), we now have even more sophisticated tools to fine-tune our photographs. We will reinforce what you already know about these new tools and provide advanced guidance on how to use them to achieve specific editing goals. With LRC’s constantly improving capabilities, I find I am using Photoshop less and less.
This will be a small, hands-on workshop with a maximum of 6 participants. You will need to bring a laptop with the latest version of LRC and at least a dozen of your RAW images. These may be images you have struggled with in the past or some of your favorite images that you want to see if there are other ways to visualize the final photograph, as well as to explore a variety of processing possibilities.
Topics Covered:
o Extensive image evaluation and critiquing of unprocessed images to determine what improvements can be made
o A unique case study method will be used to determine editing possibilities and then use the appropriate LR editing capabilities to achieve the optimal results based on the photographer’s vision for the image
o When necessary to significantly edit an image, various LRC plug-ins will be compared and demonstrated, for example plug-ins for advanced noise reduction, color to B&W conversions, and image resizing.
o This class is about taking your image evaluation and editing skills to a much higher level. We will use and demonstrate some of the most sophisticated LRC advanced masking tools and color tools that should be in your editing toolkit.
This workshop is about producing the finest images possible!

I am passionate about photography. Not just the finished photograph, but also the process of capturing, processing, and then creating the final print. I want the viewer to be moved or intrigued by what they see, regardless of whether their reaction is exactly the same as what motivated me to press the shutter release. Through my photographs I am showing what I saw, but more importantly, what I felt.
The writer uses words; the musician uses musical notes. My goal is to present images that stimulate more than our visual sense, but to also evoke emotion and imagination. While I use the most modern photographic equipment and software, my style and approach to photography are traditional, driven by my photographic vision.
My greatest influences have been those with whom I have studied, including well-known British landscape photographer Charlie Waite, former National Geographic legend Bruce Dale, digital expert Thom Hogan, fine art image processing and printing experts Eliot Cohen, Charlie Cramer, John Paul Caponigro, Julia Anna Gospodarou and darkroom master John Sexton.
