About the Course
This free, 2-hour online class is for photographers who would like a general understanding of the current state of photography (film, mirrorless, DSLR, smart phones), the equipment and capabilities, developing and editing possibilities for both film and digital and an introduction to Photoworks.
What Will You Learn?
This is a basic overview, including a very brief history of how we’ve gotten to where we are today – highly sophisticated digital cameras and smartphones, incredibly powerful software that enables us to edit our digital photographs and even the possibilities for those interested in film photography and darkroom development and processing.
Topics Covered:
· Very brief overview of the history of photography
· Camera and lens choices based on students’ needs (film cameras, DSLRs, mirrorless, smartphone, sensor size, lens choices – fixed focal length, zooms, apertures)
· Differences in capabilities and settings on smartphone vs. mirrorless or DSLRs
· Basic composition
· Editing possibilities – very basic examples [not teaching them how to do it, just that it can be done!] and needed software
o From simple cropping, exposure and saturation adjustments
o To more advanced masking, sky, subject and background selections
· Show numerous examples of before and after basic editing – not the way to do it, just the results
· Explain Photoworks’ entire curriculum so the participants see what is offered, the progression of classes, electives and the skills gained along the continuum of classes.
